thinking....

it has been a dull/boring/lame type of day......
here are some of my thoughts from today:

  • i love harry potter
  • im glad my room is looking better..its almost finished
  • i wish i would have made plans for dinner
  • why did they call me into work to take ONE table?
  • why is everyone being stupid today
  • im getting sick of eating chicken for dinner
  • everyone is so annoying lately
  • why cant i find any time to read?
  • is it weird that in my dreams, i only see my old house, i have yet to see our current house?
  • perhaps i should go onto phase 2 of my meds...
  • it has to be against some law to go to work 4 different times in one day....
  • i wish things were like they used to be
  • why cant crying make things better like it used to
  • i wouldnt mind having matching cars with my boyfriend
  • i always forget how good modest mouse is to me
  • im not excited for 4 morning shifts this week... not at all
  • its not the early mornings... its the people at work i cant stand!
  • if im not in control of the next meeting- i am not going-- these people are bugging me!
  • i dont miss the TV much
  • i wish celeste wasnt in HS-- then we could go away...

nightmare bear and co.

it's strange to think how attached to something we might actually be...

im still a kid at heart-- or perhaps i just like to have something nice and soft to cuddle while i sleep:

Blue Blankie: when i was born, i was brought home from the hospital, in my first blue blankie, he was my nighttime companion. when i was about 6 years old, a very sad day came. for reasons that i cant remember, i was very sick and in the hospital, i remember not being able to fall alseep, and how mom stayed in the bed next to me just so i wouldnt be alone. i threw up one night and the nurses came to change the sheets... and that was the last i ever saw of blue blankie #1! the nurses gathered up the sheets to wash them, and took blue blankie with them by mistake... i never got blue blankie back....
im not sure how long after the tragic accident happened, but i magically received a wonderful duplicate of blue blankie. blue blankie #2 is, to this day, still with me... (infact, he is draped around my neck right now, just like a scarf).
i love my blue blankie, he goes everywhere with me! i take him when i leave town, when i go on vacations, when i eat breakfast... he is always there, usually around my neck, like a scarf. and yes, i STILL, to this day, sleep with my blue blankie!

Nightmare Bear: at about 9 years old, my grandma thalia gave me what i like to call my "Nightmare Bear". this bear was actually a present from her mom.. it was a present for "the two girls". my cousin Stephanie also got a bear. i remember gran calling me into her room, and letting me help her open a box, she said... "now there are 2 bears in here; one is for you, and the other for Stephanie". i was so excited! in the box there were indeed 2 bears, they both had PJs on and nightcaps. one bear had yellow PJs, and the other blue. being about 9 years old, i figured my eyes were blue, so my favorite color must be blue, and i choose my "Nightmare Bear".
where did his name come from you ask??? i remember having awful dreams, and i knew there had to be an end to the dreams- i named my bear "nightmare bear" to chase all the nightmares away. and he did!
nightmare bear spent so many nights with me, that his lace around his pjs were falling off, his eyes were getting all scratched, his little pj cap was begining to fall off.. gran would of course mend him back together for me.
i remember being afraid of the house being on fire, but i knew what one thing i would grab, it would be nightmare bear.. infact, for a while i even had a string type thing to hook to my hand so that if it was dark and we had to get out fast, i wouldnt have to look for him, he would be right by my side. he mostly stays home for the small trips, but when there is a big move, he will be right by my side. nightmare bear has retired to the shelve, but he still looks over me at night, and he is always there for a big squeeze when i need him!

Disney Bear: while i was working at Disney World, i was able to meet some of my very best friends! i had to go back home earlier than the rest of them did, so they decided to get me a going-away gift.. it was disney bear- disney bear is so special to me because he is a reminder of what great friends i have, and how much they cared for me in florida(and he is ohhh so cuddly!). disney bear is also kind of like a friendship keychain, we all have one... mine is a nice light brown, Frankies is pink, Shanyes is black, and Keri's is blue.
about a year after i had my disney bear something horrible happened; his neck ruptured, causing his head to (almost) pop off!!!! i did my best with my sewing skills to try to put him back together, but it was a short-term fix.... he had to retire to the shelve... he wasnt capable of cuddling. eventually i got sick of not being able to have my disney bear at my squishing will, and sent him to the Operating Room(..our neighbor Heidi is a fabulous seamstress!)!!!!!! it was touch and go for a while, but Disney Bear will be alright!!! he is still feeling a little 'loosey goosey' from the surgery, but he will be just fine!! its good to finally have him back to me, ready to be cuddle-smoothered!!!

Lambie: im actually not so sure what makes lambie so special... mom and i got lambie at a Kohls... prob 2 years ago. i think i like him mostly because he is soft. lambie can also sit on my head, and he is easy to carry around by his hoof. he also likes to come to breakfast, and he enjoys sliding off the banister! yes, i realize i'm 22 years old, but i do love lambie! he came with a little 'mini lambie' too, but i cant sleep with the mini, i might roll over him, and that would be bad.. so he keeps Nightmare Bear company.

after remembering why each of these nighttime comforts mean so much to me, i cant help but crawl into bed tonight with arms full of childhood love.

  • what are some of your childhood securities?
  • do you still have them?
  • if so, where are they now?

NEW YEAR 2007-2008!!!

i must admit that my family has never been much of a 'party scene' type of family...
a usual 'New Years night' means mom and dad are in bed, asleep by about 10:00pm, claiming they have pushed the limit on staying up late.. the rest of us who are night owls, are usually with our friends, or at the chruch dances, or anywhere else that we can actually stay awake and not be told to 'shhhhhh'

this year was different:
perhaps it was the super fun thanksgiving we had this year, that gave us party fever!
perhaps it was all the adrenalin rush right before our semi-anual WDW christmas vacation, all that planning really gets me going!
perhaps it was just the fact that i was old enough to take a stand, and demand a party to welcome in the new year!

whatever it was....... it happened...
Our 1st annual 'Mickelson Style New Year Party' was a HUGE success!!!

we started planning about the first of december... a small party, just close friends..

we ended up having 24 people show up!!! (the Skippers[5], the Stephensons[8], the Mickelsons[7], lestys friends[2], michaels friends[3], hoovies friend[1])

the party started at 9pm, we had late night BBQ Chicken, yummy appetizers, home made root beer, and tasty deserts..

we then played a group favorite game; "Bunkos" - its a good game for all ages and always a hit!

then we headed outside for a Mickelson Tradition of "blowing up ginger bread houses" - this year was great, we asked all of our party guests to bring their own ginger bread houses, and we had a great blown' up new year.. we had a few fireworks as well, one of the houses actually caught flame-- not just a bit, but about 10 min. of fire!!! it was the greatest! dad said that our ginger bread houses dont stand a chance next year~!!!

we went inside for a midnight toast to the new year! hooray for Martinelli's sparkling cider!

then finished the night off with some ice cream sunades, bananas, marchino cherries, chocolate, caramel, homemade whip cream!!!

after we helped clean up a bit, the olda' kids and i... (mikey, celeste, 3 of mikey pals, lesteys 2 pals and ME!) went up to mikeys room for a super fun dance party! it was indeed super fun! we danced till 2am- then i gave into my yawns and ended the party---

goodbye 2007... HELLO 2008!!!!!

happy new year everyone!

Christmas=

Christmas started this year with my family going to WDW- how fun!!!

we got back on the 18th, and had a bit of a smooshy christmas: mom and dad took yet another mini-vacation to Vegas for the BYU game, my grandpa is a huge fan; it was his christmas!

on their way back to nephi, they picked up Bryan in St.George! he was able to spend christmas with our family!!!

::Mickelson Family Christmas Traditions::[see pictures below!!!]

Christmas Eve:
  • Neighbor gifts(this year i made some cherry chocolate cupcakes to go along with our cherry merry christmas cards and cherry sprite!)
  • Ginger Bread House decorating(not just candy and frosting, we have to think about things like.."will this piece of candy blow up?" ... "will it make a loud sound?" ... "how many fire crackers can i stuff in this thing before someone gets hurt?")
  • Fancy Dinner(see fancy pictures below)
  • Opening one present!(its always PJs!!!)
  • Christmas Lights around town(this year was kind of a dud, we didnt have a vehicle big enough for 8)
  • all the kids sleep in one room(silly, but we all look forward to it, and LOVE it!)
Christmas Day:
  • Dad comes and wakes us up, usually around 8AM-(sometimes he is more excited than we are..hehe)
  • we each open our Christmas Stockings
  • then take the first couple of gifts going one at a time, then realise how long it will really take if we do that..then we all go present CRAZY!!!!
  • after the gifts are all open, we eat cinnamon rolls and yummy icing
  • now we get to watch movies, or play family games, or whatever we want!!!

i really had a good christmas this year- i was able to spend it with the ones i love!
